October's Teaching Moment
As you know, 2025 is the Jubilee of Hope year, and many pilgrims are going to Rome to visit the Holy Doors of Rome’s four papal basilicas. Passing through a Holy Door is a powerful reminder of God’s mercy and call to conversion. While many of us cannot make a pilgrimage to Rome this year, Bishop Zarama encourages us to take this opportunity to visit the pilgrimage sites in our diocese, which includes the Basilica of Saint Mary. To obtain the indulgence, you must make a pilgrimage to the basilica with the intention of gaining the Jubilee indulgence and participate in Mass, Adoration, or the Rosary, and you must also fulfill the four conditions for a plenary indulgence which include sacramental Confession within about 20 days, reception of Holy Communion, prayers for the pope’s intentions, complete detachment from all sin, including venial sins, and have a spirit of charity. The indulgence can be applied to you or for a soul in Purgatory. Please see the Diocese of Raleigh website below for more information.
