The legend behind St. Mary Major in Rome and its Feast Day
I chatted again with Catholic children's author, Claudia McAdam, about her book from Our Sunday Visitors Kids, The Miracle of the August Snow, an historical fiction chapter book about the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Snows, which is celebrated annually on August 5th and commemorates the miraculous summer snowfall in 352 AD on Rome's Esquiline Hill. The snow fell on August 5th on the location where the Virgin Mary requested that Pope Liberius build the first Marian shrine in the entire world. That church is known as the Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major, or Santa Maria Maggiore.
